SORCS Round 8 2007

Bryan Cook Wins at Talking Rock

Round eight of the SORCS series had way too much excitement for one weekend! To start with, Tammy (the real driving force behind the series) and her daughter had a scary auto accident on the way to the track on Friday. Everyone is OK, but Tammy said they were still pretty sore! Then on the start of the Pro Class, Mike Houston had a really bad crash. It was so bad, he did not jump back up and get on the quad. More on the crash later.

Several of the GNCC regulars converged on the Talking Rock event. The Pro class consisted of Bryan Cook, Mike Houston, Richie "Superman" Brown, Zach Lovell, Trevor Schrantz, Scott Rogers, and Kaleb Nichulson. When the Pro class left the line, it was Byran getting the holeshot, with Mike in a close second. In the second turn, Scott had third with Richie closing in. On the second straight at the tabletop, Mike hit a rut a little off and that was the beginning of a wild ride for him. Crystal, Mikes wife, posted the following today on the QuadZone forum:

First I want to thank everyone for their help at the track, support and prayers. The wreck pretty much happened the way Grasshopper said, Mike's tire hit Bryan's tire, Mike's quad turned sideways in the air, Mike was thrown from the quad hitting his head on the ground and then the quad hit Mike in the head (I was only 10 feet away and it is all very clear in my mind and I wish it wasn't because everytime I close my eyes I see Mike lying their almost lifeless). I ran to him waiting for him to jump up (as you guys/gals usually do), and look for his quad so he could get back on and take off....but he never did. When I got to him and he was very still, his eyes were closed, and he was not breathing. Bryan (thank you) was right there to and after a moment Mike gasped for a breath and opened his eyes. His eyes went shut again, we were talking to him and holding his hand, he kept going in and out of consciousness. Another friend, Caleb (thank you too) was there talking to Mike and keeping his head stable. The EMTs got their, removed his helmet, and he opened his eyes again, I then saw his arms and legs move, there was one of my prayers answered. The EMT talked to Mike, and Mike didn't know where he was or what just happened to him but he did look at me and say my name, a second prayer of mine had been answered. The EMTs placed Mike in the ambulance and we rode to the hospital, the wreck happened at 2:12PM and we got to the hospital at 3:00 PM. Mike could tell the EMT his birthday and his address after we were in the ambulance. He kept saying that his head and neck hurt very bad and that was where all the pain was. We got to the hospital and the Dr. ran all sorts of test on him, CT scan, x-rays, etc. and the tests came back negative, that was a blessing also. We were in the emergency room for about 5 hours and we got back home around 12:30AM Monday morning. Yesterday he mostly slept, the Dr. gave him some good medicine. He is still complaining of a low grade headache but the Dr. said he would have headaches, short term memory loss and nausea for about 6 months. I will keep everyone posted, feel free to contact me and thank you to Bryan, Jeff, Caleb, the EMTs and everyone again who was there for Mike, me and his family!!!

When I got to Mike, he wasn't really moving or anything. After a while, he started responding, but still didn't know who he was or where he was. Once he moved his arms and legs, everybody felt better. After the crash, I think everyone was really bummed. I know I had trouble concentrating on the race after the crash. I don't know how the racers blocked it out and did their job. I talked to Mike this evening, and he said he felt a lot better today. He said he was real sore, and woozy, but it was really good to talk to him and find out that he is doing well. We really need to pray that he recovers fully and remember Crystal and his family in our prayers as well.

When the Pro class restarted, it was Richie taking the holeshot, Zach was in second and Bryan was in third. Scott got a bad start this time and was bringing up the rear. Richie held the lead for a couple of laps and then it was time for Bryan to lead. Bryan took the lead and put about a straightaway on Richie. Bryan held the cushion until the last lap with Richie closing the gap. Bryan held on to the lead and took the checkered flag in first place! Richie was right behind in second. Kaleb had mechanical problems that took him out of contention. Zach had a flat and lost some time getting new rubber. Even with the flat, Zach finished 4th. Trevor Schrantz finished fifth and Kaleb took sixth place. Scott finished 3rd. We really want to thank Tommy Lovell for helping Scott after the first start. Before the race was red flagged, Scott got a rock lodged between his chain and skid plate. When he lined up for the restart, the chain was real loose. I was up on the track helping out with Mike so Tommy ran to his trailer, got tools, ran back and helped Scott get the chain adjusted. Now that is a real friend! Anyone that is fortunate enough to have the Lovell's as friends are truly blessed. Thanks Tommy! We really believe what goes around comes around, and we really appreciate you helping Scott out. Scott had a good race, played it safe on the motocross section, and had a good time. Good job guys for a great race. These competitors never give up and charge until the finish.

In the "A" Class, John Jovanovic got the holeshot. Cam came off the line in third. Austin Allen got a bad start, but charged through the packto finish second. Cam is really stepping it up, he finished the race in third, and John took forth. The A Class went relatively smooth compared to the Pro Class. Compared to the Pro class, every other class, including the bikes, was a piece of cake. Mike caused enough excitement for eveyone! Cam added points to his position and had a lot of fun.

Dustin miller won the Quad B class, with Brad Thompson 2nd and John Mullaney finishing 3rd.
Billy Payne took the Quad Vet win with Brian Schrantz finishing 4th. John Pilkey battled with David Aman for the Quad Senior win. In quad c Danny Mcelwaney won, Lucas Walker finished 2nd,Justin Satterfield finished 3rd, and Michael Tatum finished 4th.
Jacob Coffey took another win in the Quad Beginner class. The quad beginner class was huge. in fact, I think we had around 50 entries in the quad race. Mark coffey finished 3rd in Quad Utility with Victor Garcia capturing with win. Kristy Fortenberry took the Quad Women class. Hannah Leonard finished 2nd in her very first race! Good job Kristy and Hannah.

Our good friend Bill Bryant captured a 5th place trophy in his class in the AM bike race. Looks like Bill will be on the podium at the SORCS Banquet this year. Good job Bill!

This was, once again, a very dusty race. Brenda got some really good pics, especially considering how dusty it was. I know I had a lot of trouble with the camera focusing correctly with all the dust. Check out the pics on our site. Check out all the pics in the gallery section. I hope we got a good picture of you.

Until next time, take care, God Bless, see you later........

BroadRiver Round 2 2007

Scott Gets Overall at Broadriver

With a weekend off, what better to do than go racing! Scott, Cam and family friend Chris Jarrard headed up for round two of the Broadriver Cross country series and a little fun.

They headed out early Saturday morning and it rained the entire trip. The rain stopped as they got to the track. Several of the regulars were there and it looked like a good day of racing.

Cam took care of photo duties that day and did a pretty good job. Check out the pics here.

Scott said the track that Keith laid out was great. He said everything was perfect and everyone had a great time. A lot of the regulars were in attendance: Brian, David, Luke, John and Austin. I hope I didn't leave anyone out. Austin was running Utility class that day. Scott and John ran the Unlimited class and had a good battle.

If the Broadriver forum comes back up I will try to post the results. Thanks to Keith and Kathy and the Broadriver staff for putting on such a great race. We look forward to more of these type of events.

Hope everyone enjoys the pics, until next time, take care and God Bless!
Later.................

SORCS Round 7 2007

Austin Allen Takes A Class Win!

Well, I said it was going to happen, and it finally did. Austin Allen captured 1st place in the ATV A Class. After the disappointing mechanical DNF at Garland Farms, Austin was ready at the Rockcrusher. What is really neat is, Austin did it the hard way. He didn't get the best start and had to charge from behind on a very challenging course. Picking off riders and charging to the lead, riding one of his best races this year. Allen was on track for a win at Round 6 in Garland Farms, riding fast and smooth until a mechanical problem sidelined him. He has been getting better at each event, and now he has a win to show for all the hard work. Taking second place was John Jovanovic while Michael Pryor finished 4th. Congratulations Austin, good work! Keep charging.

The Pro Class had some visitors for round 7. Lining up for the Pro class were 6 serious competitors ready to do battle. The lineup would have been bigger, but Richie "Ironman" Brown, the man that ran this years Baja 1000 solo, a GNCC regular, and one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, was not allowed to race! Richie was running a little late, thinking the time for the start had been changed. When he got to the signup table, he was told the computer was off and he couldn't signup. He even tried to signup to just race, not receive any points. It wasn't to be. Lucky for me, he was relegated to spectator status and we hung out for the race. That was too cool. Hanging out with Richie! We picked a good spot in the woods and proceeded to watch a good battle take place.
Capturing the holeshot was Jeff Maloney, followed by Brian Toney, Jason Stover, Daniel Eger, Zach Lovell and Trevor Schrantz. Zach was debuting his new ride. He is still on Yamaha, but this is a sweet looking bike. He was having some jetting problems that caused a bad start. Zach was plagued with the jetting issues throughout the race causing the bike to stall several times. He hung in and finished. I am sure that Tommy will have the bike sorted out before the next round. I know it was disappointing for Zach, but he hung in there and had a good attitude about it. Plus, he looked sharp in the new gear! Trevor had some mechanical issues and had to drop out of the race. Better luck next time Trevor, hope you are ready for Talking Rock. The guys in the Pro Class were setting some really fast lap times, charging through the woods and making up time each lap. In the end, they finished as follows:
Jeff Maloney won, Brian Toney finished 2nd, Jason Stover captured 3rd, Daniel Eger came across the finish in 4th, and Zach finishing 5th. Stover was decreasing his lap time every circuit of the track, he just ran out of time. The Quad competitors were very disappointed that the race was so short, plus the motocross section was taken out of the course due to an injured rider having to be life flighted from the track. I certainly hope the riders return for the remainer of the series. We would like to see longer races, at least the same laps as the bikes. One lap can make a big difference. Riders, see if you can't encourage Eddie to increase the Quad race laps. We also hope to see Richie at the next race!

Brad Thompson took the Quad B win, with Jared Seabolt taking 2nd and Justin Seabolt getting 3rd. Quad C winner was Dustin Miller with Mark Umberger finishing 2nd and Michael Tatum came home in 8th, picking up some valuable points. Michael had his cute pit crew at the race. They were even getting some pictures of the action. The Quad Vet class was won by Bryon McCalter with Kenny Hemmings taking 2nd and Brian Schrantz finished the Vet class in 5th. Johnny Pilkey was the Quad Sr winner with Jim Merriken finishing 2nd and David Aman taking 3rd. Jacob Coffey won the Quad Beginner class with Ben Jenkins finishing 2nd and Corey Ellis taking 3rd. Corey Jennings finished 7th in the Quad Beginner class. Quad utility was won by Victor Garcia with Shad Martin finishing 2nd and Mark Coffey taking 3rd.

In the Quad Women class, the winner was Kristy Fortenberry with Lelia Parton taking second and Beth Scoggins finishing 3rd. Kristy has a great race. Leila had starting problems on the line, but once she got going, she ran a great race. This was Lelia's last race before heading off to college. I personally want to thank Lelia for allowing Cam to be her Umbrella Guy for the event!

In the bike class, it was Andrew Matusek capturing the AA class, charging hard and styling. Bill Bryant finished 3rd in the Master C class after a last place start! Bill said that was the most fun he has had this year racing. Josh Shields finished 4th in his class. Josh was jazzed about his finish. He is really making progress and looking good. Congrats Josh! Trey Singleton was charging and setting a blistering pace, but ran out of gas on the last lap. Man, was he bummed! Taylor Johnson was also in attendance, however, he had some problems and didn't get the finish he was hoping for.

Next stop, Talking Rock. Hope to see everybody there. Don't forget to check out the pictures at our website. Until next time, take care, God Bless, see ya' later...........

SORCS Round 6 2007

Zach Takes Garland Farms

Round 6 of the SORCS series, held at Garland Farms, was typical 2007 conditions;
Dust, dust and more dust. To top it all off, it was HOT! As the Pro Quad class took off, it was Zach Lovell grabbing the holeshot, with Scott Rogers in second and Trevor Schrantz bringing up third. The orderer they entered the woods was the order they would cross the checkered flag. As the Pros came around for the first lap, Zach had the lead with four other riders in a cloud of dust. With a clear track in front of him, Zach held the lead for the entire race. Congratulations to Zach and his crew for capturing his first win of 2007.

Scott Rogers finished the race in second place. Coming off the line in second place, Scott held the spot throughout the race, holding off challenges from several competitors. Scott stated that the dust was so bad, at times he could not see the track, he was merely staying between the trees! Actually, round 6 was typical of this years races. The track was tough, challenging, with plenty of pit parking. It was well organized, and had all the ingredients of a super race, with the exception of the extreme dust. Hopefully, the weather will change and we will see more races like round 5.

In the ATV A Class, it was Max Seagraves capturing the win. Round five was actually looking like a real race in the A class until Austin Allen had mechanical problems with his YFZ and had to pull off the track. Austin was charging hard and giving Max a real run. Second place was taken by Chuck Norris Jr. and Cam took third place. Cam rode his best race of the season at Garland Farms. He said he loved the track and was charging hard. I look for Cam to continue to charge and pick up more speed as the season continues. I am looking forward to see Austin pick up where he left off. He has a good season and before long, it will all come together and he will get his win. We wish Austin the best of luck and really hope that he has his quad ready for round seven.

Michael Tatum was sporting a new Honda TRX 450 for the event. Mike look smooth on the new ride. I think he had fun too. Seth Newman finished forth in beginner class.

In bike action, Phil Bearden returned to SORCS competition to get a first place in his class. Bill Bryant took 5th in his class. I believe Jeff Hill got second in his class also.

Our good friends Julie Stokes and Brad Lord showed up and hung out with us. It was really good to see Julie and catch up. She is hoping to compete in a few of the remaining races, and then prepare for the entire 2008 season. It was good to see Brad, we are hoping to see him out on the course soon.

I have to apologize, I really don't have a lot of the competitors finishes for this race. It was very hot and dusty, and when the race was over, I was ready to check out and get a huge glass of tea! The heat and dust was just a little too much. We are looking forward to seeing all our friends at Round 7.

Check out the pics at our web page.
Until next time, take care, God bless, and we will see you soon.....
