2008 SORCS Round 2

Cam Scores a Big 2nd
Strickland wins
Scott just misses

Round 2 of the SORCS series was held at Beaverdam Creek in Sparta, GA. I guess Keith Davis put in perspective perfectly; "If we didn't get any rain it would have been one of the best tracks in quite a while. With the rain Friday night and the storms Saturday, a good portion was underwater. The good news is that should be perfect for the race in June." With that said, we really need the rain, so we won't complain about the race conditions. We were really hoping the race conditions were like the last race at Beaverdam Creek, PERFECT! This race turned into a mudfest for everyone. The good news is no injuries, no major equipment damage and Cam got another second place finish! Two second places in a row.

A Class Results
When the A class came off the line, Cam was in third place. When they went into the first woods section, Cam was passed by Jennifer Albright. Jennifer and Phil Albright had an off week from the GNCC series and dropped in to compete in the SORCS race. Jennifer was aboard her new Geico sponsored Yamaha. Later in the race, Jennifer got caught-up in one of the mud sections, and Cam stopped to help her out a little. Overall Cam had a great race, he got stuck a couple of times but nothing major. He was able to get out quick, maintain some fast lap times and secure the second place position. During the last lap, Cam and Jason Strother battled for the entire lap. They said they both had a lot of fun racing each other. During the race John Jovanovich came into the pits with a flat front tire and a bent tie-rod. He got the flat fixed and continued the race to collect a forth place finish. Jennifer captured 1st place, Cam got 2nd, Danny McElwaney came in 3rd. Congratulations Cam on a great finish. With Cam's two second place finishes, he has taken over the points lead in the A Class. He will soon be featured in an article on one of the major ATV Forums. The article, written by Jennifer Albright, both an acommplished competitor, business person and writer, will be published soon. It is a part of series on race competitors competing in the amatuer ranks. Detail will be posted soon. Now, if you can just contain your mud riding to the track, and away from school (don't ask) you will make Mom, Dad and Scott VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!

ATV Pro Class
In the ATV Pro Class, Max Seagraves jumped out to an early lead followed closely by Blake Strickland. Scott got a bad start and got stuck in the first woods section loosing 3 minutes. He wants to give out a big thanks to the spectators that helped him out of that gulley. Once freed, Scott was setting fast laps, but didn't have enough time to make up a 3 minute deficit. It is hard to make up time in the Pro Class. Those competitors don't mess around. On lap two, Blake took the lead from Seagraves, while Zach Lovell worked his way up to third. Strickland ran a flawless race, pulling out a comfortable lead over second place. When they came across the line for the checkers, it was Blake Strickland, Zach Lovell, Max Seagraves, Mark Umberger, Jesse Gibson, and Scott. Trevor Schrantz came in seventh. Personally, I was really looking forward to a great race for Scott and Cam at Sparta, but sometimes things like this happen. Last year, Scott had a perfect race at Sparta. This finish wasn't the best, however, it was not near as bad as the season opener last year when he busted a tranny case and came in eighth place! Scott took his misfortunes well, felt bad that he couldn't run up in the heat of the battle, but we are very thankful that we had a safe race. Brenda and I say that if you finish a race without any major injury, that's all that counts. Anything else is just icing on the cake! Congratulations go out to Blake for his win, he ran a great race. Scott, better luck next time, we know you can do it!

In other race news, Jason and Laura Strother were at the race. Laura got a 4th place finish in the Quad B class and Jason captured second place just behind Phil Albright. It was good to see Jason and Laura again. Michael Newsom won the Quad Senior class, with David Aman taking 3rd. Brian Schrantz got 3rd place in the Quad Vet class. The Quad B winner was Cody Taylor, with Ben Jenkins taking 2nd and Lucas Walker finishing 5th. Dustin Geiger won the Quad Beginner class, with 2nd going to Hunter Renfroe, Timothy Hallford took 3rd, 4th went to Brad Camp, and Dylan Johnson rounded out the top 5. In the Womens class, Kristy Fortenberry won, with Kristen Deloach taking second and Kelly Deloach placing 3rd. Fourth place went to Kendall Taylor.

Roger O'Kelly from RaceDayPics was at the event. Roger got some really great photo's and we would like to thank him for coming out to the event. Roger contacted me and let me know that the pictures from the race are up on the website. The Beaverdam Creek RaceDayPics can be found by clicking here. Roger also said that his son, Wayne, will be competing in the upcoming GNCC. We want to wish Wayne luck. Hope you do well and have a safe race. Hopefully it won't be a mudfest in North Carolina.

Brenda got some great pics as well. If you can pick yourself out after the first lap, you are doing good! Check them out at our Race Gallery. We enjoyed visiting with all of our racing friends, it was good to see the Lovell's at the race as well as the Coffey family. I want to say a personal thank you to the owner of Blueridge Yamaha. He let me take a test spin on the new Beta Trials bike. Man that thing was awsome! I know what I want for Father's Day, or my birthday, or Christmas, it doesn't matter, I just want one. You know, a trials bike makes it stylish to be slow!

Until next time, take care and God Bless.......
