SORCS Round 3 2007

Scott takes Overall at Highpoint

Scott Rogers gets a big win in the ATV Pro class and captures the overall win as well. In what has become a highly respected and super competitive event, Scott Rogers was able to score his first SORCS win of the year. In a very uncharacteristic move, Scott got a good start and came off the line in about 4th place. By the time the Pro class hit the woods, he was in a solid second place. Before the halfway point, Scott passed Osborn Morgan for the lead. Being out front has proved to be a big advantage this year, with the blinding and dangerous dust. This has got to be the dustiest season we have ever had! Once in clean air, Scott worked to put distance between himself and second place, which on the first lap was Zack Lovell. Lovell made a pass for second and relegated Morgan to third. Hitting his marks and staying out of trouble was Scott's goal during the third race of the season. It payed off too, with Scott stretching his lead on the fourteen mile course. My father was at the race and was very excited to see Scott come home with the victory. The first time he attended a SORCS event, Cam won his first SORCS race. We are going to have to take him more often. It is fitting that Scott win the Highpoint event, this is where he entered his first race event, on a stock 400EX taking a solid 3rd place finish. It has been a couple of years since we competed at Highpoint but the track typical, technical with lots of woods, and a challenge for all. As the laps wound down the track became dustier and more rutted. In the end Scott took 1st, Morgan finished 2nd, Zack finished 3rd. Marcus finished 4th with D Martin rounding out the top five. In sixth was Matt Bishop, seventh was Trevor Schrantz, and in eighth place was Steve Purser nursing an ailing machine to finish and earn valuable points. This season looks like it is going down to the wire with the field in the Pro class. Congratulations to Scott for a great race and fine finish.

In the A Class, Max Seagraves takes another win with laps times equaling or better than most of the Pro class. At the end of the event, Seagraves had several minutes on the rest of the A class lineup. Austin rode a smart race finishing 2nd. Austin has been very consistent this year, and by the end of the season I would expect to see him challenge for the win or at least a solid podium finish. Cameron Rogers came off the line in second place and finished in third. The third place finish has moved Cam up in positions and added valuable points to the overall. This race was not kind to Cam, after taking the checkered flag, he went straight to the trailer and laid down for about 20 minutes. I think the intense tennis season this year has taken a lot out of Cam. But the tennis season season is over and now he can concentrate on the remainder of the race season.

Other winners include Blake Strickland taking the Quad B class, Billy Payne taking 1st in Quad Vet, Barry Phillips winning Quad Senior with Ty Blair finishing 2nd. Quad C was won by Jesse Gibson, with Jacob Coffey winning the Quad Beginner class and Blake Callahan finishing 5th. Victor Garcia won Quad Utility class with Mark Coffey finishing 3rd. Beth Scoggins took 1st in Quad Womens class.

Now, on to my two-wheeled riding friends. Bill Bryant captured 3rd in Master C. Bill has trophied in all three events this year! Phil Bearden won the Super Senior B class. Phil Griffin placed 4th in Master A. Griffin was smart, before the race he told me he was going to just do some agressive trail riding and stay out of trouble. It payed off with a solid finish. Sean Callahan finished 3rd in Senior C. Trey Singleton won the Fourstroke B class and Taylor Johnson won the Fourstroke A class. Barney Barfield won the Master B class with Dan Bowman getting 5th after a bad start. Thad Binford finished 2nd in Master C.

We did have some injuries, but at last check, everyone was healing up and looks like they will be fine. Until we get some rain, it looks like the danger level is going to remain high. We really need to continue to pray for rain. As you probably have noticed, this entry is rather short without a lot of the links. Sorry, it has been super busy both at work and at home. We have been doing a lot of wrenching this year. Brenda was even in the shop last night helping me out. Yes, she does know how to work on race bikes!! Be sure to check out all the pics over at our web page.

In the mean time; be careful, God Bless, and we will see you soon!
