SORCS Round 7 2007

Austin Allen Takes A Class Win!

Well, I said it was going to happen, and it finally did. Austin Allen captured 1st place in the ATV A Class. After the disappointing mechanical DNF at Garland Farms, Austin was ready at the Rockcrusher. What is really neat is, Austin did it the hard way. He didn't get the best start and had to charge from behind on a very challenging course. Picking off riders and charging to the lead, riding one of his best races this year. Allen was on track for a win at Round 6 in Garland Farms, riding fast and smooth until a mechanical problem sidelined him. He has been getting better at each event, and now he has a win to show for all the hard work. Taking second place was John Jovanovic while Michael Pryor finished 4th. Congratulations Austin, good work! Keep charging.

The Pro Class had some visitors for round 7. Lining up for the Pro class were 6 serious competitors ready to do battle. The lineup would have been bigger, but Richie "Ironman" Brown, the man that ran this years Baja 1000 solo, a GNCC regular, and one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, was not allowed to race! Richie was running a little late, thinking the time for the start had been changed. When he got to the signup table, he was told the computer was off and he couldn't signup. He even tried to signup to just race, not receive any points. It wasn't to be. Lucky for me, he was relegated to spectator status and we hung out for the race. That was too cool. Hanging out with Richie! We picked a good spot in the woods and proceeded to watch a good battle take place.
Capturing the holeshot was Jeff Maloney, followed by Brian Toney, Jason Stover, Daniel Eger, Zach Lovell and Trevor Schrantz. Zach was debuting his new ride. He is still on Yamaha, but this is a sweet looking bike. He was having some jetting problems that caused a bad start. Zach was plagued with the jetting issues throughout the race causing the bike to stall several times. He hung in and finished. I am sure that Tommy will have the bike sorted out before the next round. I know it was disappointing for Zach, but he hung in there and had a good attitude about it. Plus, he looked sharp in the new gear! Trevor had some mechanical issues and had to drop out of the race. Better luck next time Trevor, hope you are ready for Talking Rock. The guys in the Pro Class were setting some really fast lap times, charging through the woods and making up time each lap. In the end, they finished as follows:
Jeff Maloney won, Brian Toney finished 2nd, Jason Stover captured 3rd, Daniel Eger came across the finish in 4th, and Zach finishing 5th. Stover was decreasing his lap time every circuit of the track, he just ran out of time. The Quad competitors were very disappointed that the race was so short, plus the motocross section was taken out of the course due to an injured rider having to be life flighted from the track. I certainly hope the riders return for the remainer of the series. We would like to see longer races, at least the same laps as the bikes. One lap can make a big difference. Riders, see if you can't encourage Eddie to increase the Quad race laps. We also hope to see Richie at the next race!

Brad Thompson took the Quad B win, with Jared Seabolt taking 2nd and Justin Seabolt getting 3rd. Quad C winner was Dustin Miller with Mark Umberger finishing 2nd and Michael Tatum came home in 8th, picking up some valuable points. Michael had his cute pit crew at the race. They were even getting some pictures of the action. The Quad Vet class was won by Bryon McCalter with Kenny Hemmings taking 2nd and Brian Schrantz finished the Vet class in 5th. Johnny Pilkey was the Quad Sr winner with Jim Merriken finishing 2nd and David Aman taking 3rd. Jacob Coffey won the Quad Beginner class with Ben Jenkins finishing 2nd and Corey Ellis taking 3rd. Corey Jennings finished 7th in the Quad Beginner class. Quad utility was won by Victor Garcia with Shad Martin finishing 2nd and Mark Coffey taking 3rd.

In the Quad Women class, the winner was Kristy Fortenberry with Lelia Parton taking second and Beth Scoggins finishing 3rd. Kristy has a great race. Leila had starting problems on the line, but once she got going, she ran a great race. This was Lelia's last race before heading off to college. I personally want to thank Lelia for allowing Cam to be her Umbrella Guy for the event!

In the bike class, it was Andrew Matusek capturing the AA class, charging hard and styling. Bill Bryant finished 3rd in the Master C class after a last place start! Bill said that was the most fun he has had this year racing. Josh Shields finished 4th in his class. Josh was jazzed about his finish. He is really making progress and looking good. Congrats Josh! Trey Singleton was charging and setting a blistering pace, but ran out of gas on the last lap. Man, was he bummed! Taylor Johnson was also in attendance, however, he had some problems and didn't get the finish he was hoping for.

Next stop, Talking Rock. Hope to see everybody there. Don't forget to check out the pictures at our website. Until next time, take care, God Bless, see ya' later...........
