SORCS Round Seven 2008

Richie Brown Charges to a Big Win
Cam joins the Pro Ranks

Round seven of the SORCS series was held in Aonia Raceway near Washington, GA. This is the location of Cam's first big win. A couple of years ago Cam had a big, runaway win in a super competitive race. Even though we are running a limited schedule this year, we could not miss this race. Besides, we were missing our racing friends so we had to show up and catch up on what was going on in the racing community.
Since we are not chasing a championship this year, Cam decided to sign up in the Pro ATV class. Hey, why not, we are just racing for fun and many of his friends race in the Pro class. And it would have turned out really good except for a couple of problems. Three problems actually, however it was a good learning experience and I think now Cam is ready to compete in the Pro class. It was a good test session and we found out that his endurance is up to the task.

When the Pro class left the line, it was Richie Brown, Brian Toney, and Blake Strickland to the first turn in a tight group, with Richie and Brian bouncing off each other. Cam got a great start and had a good line but, the first problem reared it's ugly head, a missed shift cost precious time and the came into the first turn in a cloud of dust and playing catch-up. It was a very dry dusty race. Did I mention that it was HOT? On the completion of the first lap, it was Brian Toney with a good lead, Richie in second, Blake Strickland 3rd and Zach Lowell in fourth. Cam was running about eighth place on the first lap. On lap 2, it was pretty much the same, Richie had made up some time on Brian and cam was moving up. By lap three, Richie was close enough to call it a race between he and Brian. Cam had moved up to fifth place and was running really good. He looked smoother than usual. I was thinking " a top five in his first Pro race, not bad!" On the next-to-last lap, Richie was glued to Brian and he finally made his move. Cam came into the pits asking for water. This is when I learned about problem number two. His camelback had malfunctioned and he had ran the whole race in the extreme heat with no water! After the water stop, he charged to re-take fifth place that was being held by our good friend Trevor Schrantz. They were in a fast dusty section, when they came upon a lapper. The lapper saw Trevor and moved over. After Trevor passed the lapped rider moved in front of Cam and he hit the quad at race speed. The impact knocked both quads into the trees. If you are keeping count, yep this was problem number three. With a stalled and stuck quad, Cam thought it was over, however he regained his composure got back on the track and charged for the last lap. We'll take sixth. Nobody got hurt, he felt good after the race, even with no water and the bike handled great. Richie won the event, with Brian taking second and Blake Strickland finished 3rd. Zach had a solid finish for fourth, it being one of his first races after his wrist injury. Zach looked to be in good form. Trevor had a good finish in 5th, and Cam finished 6th. We had some friends come up to be with us during the event. Rocky and Roxan Stuckey came to enjoy the event and we really enjoyed having them in our pits. They saw a good, but dusty race!

In other classes, Chuck Norris won the A class with Adam Coffey finishing 2nd. The quad B winner was Steven Owens with Cody Taylor finishing 2nd, Luke Walker finished 5th. The Quad Vet winner was Jason Stother with Heath Worlerk finishing 2nd. Our friend Michael Newsom took the Quad Senior win and Dennis Johnson finished 2nd with David Aman taking 3rd. The Quad C winner was Johnny Pilkey. Nicholas Sane won the Quad Beginner class. Shad Martin took the Quad Utility win. In the Quad Women class, it was Kristy Fortenberry capturing 1st, with Kristen Deloach in 2nd, Kendall Taylor in 3rd, and Kelly Deloach finishing 4th.

Despite the dust, Brenda got some great pictures. Be sure to check out the Photo Gallery at CSR Racing.

Until next time, take care, God bless, later........
