2008 SORCS Round 1

Scott takes ATV Pro Win
Cam gets 2nd in "A" Class

The kickoff of the 2008 racing season took place practically in our own backyard. Round one of the 2008 SORCS series was hosted in Perry Georgia at HighPoint Raceway Park. This is CSR Racing's home track, and it's only fitting that we do well at this venue.
The first race of the season brought back memories of the early days at HighPoint. The track was perfect, if not a little wet. We probably brought back 100 pounds of Perry soil to Dodge County in the form of race mud! The weather was perfect, the attendance was good, and everybody was ready to get the season underway.
The ATV Pro row was full of talented riders ready for the green flag. When the flag fell, all the riders started almost instantly, headed into the muddy first turn. When they came out of the first turn down the long straight, it looked like a freight train. Going into the off camber uphill into the woods, It was Max Seagraves in the lead followed closely by Marc Obenshain. Scott was all the way back in seventh place, with D Martin in sixth place. This was Scott's first race on his Shamrock Honda/Moose Racing/Bearden Race Fuels sponsored 2008 Honda TRX450R. It had been tested but this was the first race and it was yet to be known how it would perform in race conditions. When they came around for the completion of the first lap, it was Marc Obenshain followed by Scott. On the first lap, Scott had to pit for goggles. There was a ton of mud in this race and several creek crossings. His visibility was near zero. It was at this pit stop that Scott was passed by A class rider Blake Strickland. Blake was on a tear and cutting some very fast lap times. On the last lap, Scott took the lead in the ATV Pro class, and Marc Obenshain finished second. Third place went to Jesse Gibson and finishing fourth was Dee Martin. Congratulations Scott on your first win of the year, and for running a very determined race!

In the A Class, it was Blake Strickland taking the class win and Overall. Blake got off to a really poor start and had to fight his way to the front. Once he got the A class lead, he didn't stop. He caught the Pro riders and one-by-one picked everyone off for the overall win. Cam Rogers came into the first turn in fourth place. He made a pass for third on the outside of the first turn and set his sights on the leaders. As Cam came around for the second lap, he was firmly seated in the second position. Cam ran a great race, and really stepped up his program. This year, he is running his same TRX450ER/CSRRacing prepared quad. With a new engine and Derisi suspension, he was able to put in a good showing at the first SORCS race of the season. Finishing third was Danny McElwaney, and Brad Thompson finished 4th. Congratulations Cam on your second place finish and congrats to Blake for your win.

Michael Tatum and his family came down to Dodge County early and spent the day with us. Scott and Michael spent the day in the shop prepping and fine-tuning Michael's quad while the ladies went shopping. On race day, Michael was ready! He was off to a good start and working his way to the top position, until...... It seems Michael found a water covered ditch on one of the field sections. A quad running wide open and a ditch do not mix very well. Final score: Ditch=1, Michael=0. However, even with the crash and endo, Michael still finished fourth. I bet he felt great the next morning! Cody Taylor finished 1st, Dustin Miller was 2nd, and Luke Walker rounded out the top 3.

In other racing action, Brian Schrantz finished 2nd in the Quad Vet class, Michael Newsom took the Quad Senior win with David Aman finishing 2nd and Jeff Edge finishing 3rd. Johnny Pilkey won the Quad C class and Hunter Renfroe took the Quad Beginner class.

In the womens class, it was Kristy Fortenberry picking up where she left off last year by winning her class. Finishing second was Kristen Deloach. Third went to Kendall Taylor and in fourth place was Kelly Deloach.

The HighPoint track was a great, challenging course with lots of everything. We had a good turnout and CSR Racing went home happy, and just a little tired! We got to see a lot of our race friends, and had a great time. The weather was perfect. It couldn't have been much better.

Brenda got some great pictures this round. She has some new camera gear and her photo skills are getting better every time! Check out the Gallery over at our web page. Be sure to check out our 2008 Sponsors as well. We have some great sponsors this year, with Shamrock Honda returning as our major sponsor for the fifth year. Bearden Race Fuels returns as a major sponsor as well as Moose Racing sponsoring Scott. Cam is sponsored this year by Fly Racing. We also have several returning sponsors. Check out our sponsors web sites for some really cool race gear and parts. These companies are great support for our sport. Now, just a few days left to get ready for The General! Hope to see you there.

Until next time, God Bless, and stay safe.......
