SORCS Round 5

Well, we survived another 6 hour journey to the Rock Crusher in Hiawassee! This time we had better results. It didn't flood the night before, and we had some guests for this race. GNCC Pro Santo Derisi showed up to compete and deliver Cam's Desiri rebuilt shocks. I have got to say, Santo and his wife, Heather, are great people! The whole crew that was with Santo was great. We had a great time visiting with them and Cam is pleased with his suspension. We had a good turnout in the bikes and ATV classes. In the pro class, we had Santo Desiri, GNCC regulars Mike Houston and Richie Brown, Santo's mechanic and several others. It was some fast exciting laps. Mike Houston showed up with the LTE Race rig! Richie got the holeshot with the rest of the pack chasing him. When everything settled down, it was Mike, Santo and Richie in the top three. Mike won the race with Richie coming in second. Santo had a solid second place for about three and a half laps until a mechanical problem dropped him out of contention. That was a cool race! Brenda said they were so fast, she had trouble getting pictures of them.

Scott got a bad start and worked his way through the pack into first. He led for three and a half laps and had mechanical problems that forced him to pit. A loose tie rod dropped him back to second. He fought a ill handling bike all day. The Four Stroke B class was won by Zack Lovell.

Cam got a last place start (still not used to the 450R) and worked his way up to second on the first lap. He stayed in the top three most of the race, but dropped back to eventually finish 5th. It was a good test session for the shocks and we got a good idea of how everything is handling now.

Phil Bearden captured 1st place again in his class. Phil has a comfortable lead in his class and doing a good job. Phil Griffin clinched a 2nd place in his class piloting a KTM. That just goes to show that just because you have a little age on you doesn't mean you can't be fast! Thanks to Phil for the loan of the Hydro Pak.

Derek, Scott, Sean, and Ty all took home trophies for their efforts. I think Derek, Sean and Ty got first places and Scott came away with a 2nd. Good job! Thanks to everyone that helped us out in the pits changing out Cam's suspension. It is nice to have friends.

Speaking of friends, we had the good pleasure of having Bill Bryant in out pits. Bill helped out with pit duties for Phil and with us for both races. Bill is taking a break from racing and has been joining us at most of the SORCS events. It is really nice having Bill around at the races. Looking forward to seeing him up at Elberton. I can't wait for him to get a new KTM and show me how to ride mine.

It was a good weekend. We went up early and spent some time in Helen. We tubed (walked) the Chattahoochie River and had a great time. Brenda and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary doing what we like best, racing with our friends and family! Once again, thanks to Santo Desiri and crew, it was nice meeting you all and I gotta say they are a class act!

Be sure to check out the pictures from the race at our web site

Now, gotta get ready for Elberton!!

Later..........
